In cooperation with the Diocese of Rupert's Land Refugee Ministry and the Government of Canada, the Morning Star Refugee Support Group (MSRSG) sponsors individuals and families who are refugees, assisting with their settlement and building new homes and lives in Winnipeg.
We are a constituent group of the Diocese of Rupert's Land Refugee Sponsorship program. The diocese is the sponsorship agreement holder with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. MSRSG works with community co-sponsors, usually families of refugees, who want to bring others to safety and peace in Canada. We raise money with the co-sponsor to support the applications, assist with the development and submission of applications to the government, and help refugees settle for the first year once they arrive in Canada.
Though these events and meetings are work, they are also opportunities to build relationships. We have so appreciated the friendships and genuine love that are growing both within MSRSG and between us and the Syrian refugee community in Winnipeg. Our lives as individuals and as a parish are so much richer because of our engagement with this ministry.
