Shaping the Future Together

Following the successful completion of the Building and Foundation Assessment, Holy Trinity Church has launched Phase II of its Building Program. While Phase I focused on understanding the condition of the building, Phase II shifts the focus to understanding the community, exploring opportunities, and developing a shared vision for the future.

This work is made possible through generous funding from CentreVenture ($40,000), the Anglican Foundation of Canada ($15,000), and The Winnipeg Foundation ($15,000), representing a combined investment of $70,000 in the church's long-term planning and renewal.

Led by Civic Muse Inc., Phase II is centred on one fundamental principle: the future of Holy Trinity Church should be shaped through conversation, collaboration, and informed decision-making. Before any major capital projects or redevelopment plans are considered, it is essential to understand what parishioners, neighbours, community organizations, heritage advocates, downtown stakeholders, Indigenous organizations, governments, arts and cultural partners, and others believe is possible for this remarkable place.

Over the coming months, the project team will undertake approximately 40–50 stakeholder interviews, organize community engagement sessions and public workshops, and meet with a wide range of organizations and individuals connected to Holy Trinity and downtown Winnipeg.

These conversations will help identify community priorities, opportunities for partnerships, programming ideas, heritage values, and the role Holy Trinity can continue to play in the life of the city.

Alongside the consultation process, architects will prepare preliminary adaptive reuse concepts that explore how the church building and surrounding property might evolve while respecting its historic character and continuing its role as an active Anglican parish. These concepts are intended to encourage discussion and illustrate possibilities—they are not final designs or predetermined outcomes.

The culmination of Phase II will be a comprehensive Community Consultation and Stakeholder Engagement Report, together with preliminary architectural concepts that will help guide future planning, fundraising, partnership development, and subsequent phases of the Building Program.

Above all, Phase II recognizes that Holy Trinity Church is more than a heritage building. It is a place of worship, service, music, community, and history whose future should be shaped by the people and communities it continues to serve. By listening carefully, building partnerships, and exploring new possibilities together, Holy Trinity is laying the groundwork for a thoughtful and sustainable future.
